THE NAGA CARIÑOSA JAYCEES HISTORY

The Junior Chamber International, popularly as "The Jaycees", is the worlds largest leadership development organization for young people representing a nearly half-million members between the ages of 18 and 40. The very core of this organization is leadership training with community service-an answer to an acute need for better leaders.

In Naga City, the "Cariñosa" Jaycees was finally organized in 1993 after an almost decade of planning. It was a realization of an idea conceived by the Naga City Jaycees, inspired by their belief in the significant role of the young women in the society.

JC Roy Principe headed by the committee, which laid down much of the groundwork for the formation of the chapter. He was fully supported by JCI Sen. Danny De Leon, JCI Sen. Pete Servano, JCI Sen. Aquiles Lo and JCI Sen. Nilo Aureus.

After a series of pre-organizational meetings and orientation seminars, twenty eight (28) women professionals were first installed as charter members. The name "Cariñosa" was adopted, a truly distinctive trait of a Bicolana. The new chapter was affiliated with the Philippine Jaycees in September of 1993.

The organization is now celebrating its 18th year of existence. Within the span of seven (7) years, Naga City "Carinosa" Jaycees have already made their mark and establish a niche in the Jaycee Community. Membership have grown, and have succesfully sponsored fundraising projects which supported their various internal and external program such as: - "The Outstanding Young Women of Naga City" a yearly search conducted to give a recognition to young women professionals with the outstanding achievements in their chosen fields, and the "Orolay Ning Kababaehan", a radio program tackling various women issues. Noteworthy projects have also been created to suit the needs of the community. Among these are the stress management seminars, medical-dental missions, disaster seminar and treeplanting activities. To further enhance leadership training among its members, the Office Bearer Course was constantly conducted. They have advocated and supported the various national projects of the Philippine Jaycees such as the "Youth Leadership Excellence Award (YLEA) a recognition presented to the graduating students that exhibits the best leadership qualities, the "Voice of the Philippine Democracy" (VOPD) a nationwide oratorical competition that inculcates the importance of democracy among students, the "Outstanding Policemen of the Philippines" (TOPP) recognizes the remarkable contribution of some of the best men in uniform and the "Responsible Students for Active Governance" (Batang E.R.A.P) a leadership training for the high school student.

To Foster the jaycee mission of an interdependent world and promote peace, the "Cariñosa" Jaycees has established twinning relationships with other Jaycee Chapters the Silans "Pasimuno" Jaycees, Legazpi Jaycees, Cagayan De Oro Jaycees and Dagupan "Bangus" Jaycees.

The accomplishment of the "Cariñosa" Jaycees demonstrate their steadfast commitment to the mission / values of the Jaycees. Notably, in the recent year, the MAD (Mamamayan Ayaw sa Droga) Rally, an anti-drug campaign was organized which had a positive social impact to the society. Together with its fundraising projects the "Harana" and the "Jeremiah-Concert", the "Cariñosa" Jaycees have earned its highest distinction so far, the third-highest ranking chapter in Southern Luzon. This recognition proves that the spirit of Jayceeism is very alive among the young women of Naga.
